So you want to join the IWW, the One Big Union, but there's just one
problem. You're the only person in your community you know of who
would be in the
IWW if you did join. Perhaps you would join if there were other IWW
members nearby. Perhaps you will join despite the possibility that
you would be the only one. However, you could see yourself as not
the only Wobbly, but rather the first Wobbly in your community; we all
have to start somewhere, right? We might as well begin at the beginning;
but how to do it? Well, that's why this information is here.
Hopefully the following pages can assist you in forming a new IWW group.
There are several
different types of IWW groups; they include branches, shops, locals, and
Industrial Unions. This guide offers suggestions on how to organize
a generic group. Definitions and specific suggestions are offered
at the end of this guide.
Now, this quick guide
does not explain how to organize a specific workplace, because each work
place is unique. We could not hope to offer a specific guide to organizing
each and every workplace in existence. However, most workplaces do
fall into categories and the activities do follow specific patterns.
We will provide some basic tips for organizing workplaces real soon, so
keep checking this part of the IWW site. (You might want to "bookmark"
this section, if you can.)
